Hiking first. Birmingham and the West Midlands. First trips from November 2026.

Come for the walk. Leave with a crew.

Wayfellow puts you in a small group at your level, makes the plan and keeps you safe on the day. Then it brings the same people back, trip after trip, until they are your crew and the crews become a local community.

How a trip works

No volunteer organiser, no group chat with 300 people in it. You ask for a walk and the rest is arranged.

  1. Tell us what you want to do

Your distance, your pace, the days you are free and how far you will travel. You can come on your own. Most people do.

  2. We put you in a small group

Four to eight people at your level, starting from the same side of the city. Not forty strangers in a car park.

  3. The plan is made for you

Route, meeting point, train times, kit list, a weather check before the day and a cafe or pub stop. A host checks every plan.

  4. Everyone checks in

A start and end check-in, with your trip shared with someone you trust. If you do not check in at the end, we follow up.

  5. Same crew next time

After the walk you say whether you would go again with that group. If you would, the next trip goes to them first.

A trip, then a crew, then a chapter

Friendship needs the same faces more than once. So the system is built to repeat: the people you walked with get first refusal on the next trip, and crews in one area come together as a local chapter.

Trip

Something to do this weekend, with people at your level.

Crew

The same six to eight people, trip after trip.

Chapter

Wayfellow West Midlands: several crews, a monthly social, a shared calendar.

Belonging

Your people, and a role if you want one: regulars become hosts.

Starting with winter walks from Birmingham

The first trips run from November 2026: easy lowland routes you can reach by train, short enough for winter daylight, each with a warm stop. Peak District and Shropshire Hills trips follow in spring.

A trip costs GBP 8. Your train fare and food are your own.

All 7 routes, with trains from New Street

Walk with the same people again
