From one walk to your own crew
Meeting strangers once is easy. Friendship needs the same people more than once. Wayfellow is built in four stages so that a single hike can turn into a regular group and then a local community.
Stage 1
Trip
Something to do this weekend, with people at your level.
You tell us the distance you like, your pace, the days you are free and how far you will travel. We put four to eight people together by level, pace, availability and where they start from, with a mix of first-timers and people who have walked with us before.
Every trip comes with a plan: the route, a meeting point and time, train times or a car-share split, a kit list, a weather check before the day and a cafe or pub stop. A host checks the plan before it goes out.
Stage 2
Crew
The same six to eight people, trip after trip.
After each walk you answer two questions: did you enjoy it, and would you walk with this group again? When a group says yes, their next trip is offered to them first.
A group that keeps walking together becomes a crew, with its own name and a shared history of the walks you have done.
Stage 3
Chapter
A local community: Wayfellow West Midlands.
Several crews in one area make a chapter. The chapter has a monthly social, a shared calendar and walks that mix crews together.
There is always a next plan. An empty chapter calendar is something we treat as a problem to fix, not a quiet month.
Stage 4
Belonging
Your people, and a role if you want one.
Milestones such as ten trips or your first walk as a host. Regulars who want to can train as hosts and lead walks for newer members. Chapters build their own traditions over time.
Where things stand today
The first ten trips, from November 2026, are booked through this site and organised by hand, with a WhatsApp group for each trip. Crew and chapter features come after that, once we know the walks work for the people on them.
Walk with the same people again
Register interest and we will email you when the first West Midlands trips open for booking, from November 2026.
